Role/s: Journalism & graphic design facilitator
Grounded Magazine was a Rawmarsh City Learning Centre (Rotherham), work experience programme for young people inspired by Cube Magazine. The programme enabled school students from across Rotherham to produce a piece for Grounded Magazine and gain a qualification while learning, journalism, design and publishing skills.
Grounded offered the students the chance to work alongside professionals from the creative Industries who helped them produce their work for the magazine. In addition to being mentored by a designer, photographer and journalist, the students learnt skills in the industry standard softwares InDesign and Photoshop. 4,000 copies of the magazine were published and distributed to all the schools, community centres and libraries across the borough.
By completing the two week work experience, the students gain an NCFE Level Two in Interactive Media, which is the equivalent to a grade B GCSE.
