Qualifications & Training

My voluntary and community work has involved both local and international projects. Having a keen interest in social and community issues, I have volunteered my creative skills and knowledge on projects throughout the city where budgets have been limited. This has included creating web sites for small exhibitions and projects where funding has been limited (For example the 'Off the Shelf' Literature Festival, South Yorkshire Wome's Development Trust).

July 2005 Live poetry & words radio and internet show [Co-presenting]
Sheffield LIVE! Community Radio Station

1 hour show exploring the themes of identity, place and homeland. Content included work I recorded with young people at St. Mary's Youth Club and Abbeydale Grange School, and guest poetry.

August – Sept 2004 International Volunteer & Artist
Associacion Cultural Imágenes y Palabras, Northern Spain

My work for this rural arts organisation, who organise exhibitions and cultural events for the local communities, included: renovation work of a gallery, and varies multimedia support, such as the design of arts publications for the organisation.

Oct 2000 – June 2001 Voluntary workshop leading, skill sharing and hosting
Access Space / RTI - A community Internet space

My work with RTI was a creative mix of technology related skill sharing, acting as a host during projects and events with the general public, hosting a 3 day programme for international visitors, and running DIY web workshops, while advocating the use of basic freeware technology for creative projects.

Feb 1998 – March 1998 S4S ‘Students For Sheffield’
S4S an interactive community focused approach to developing individual learning through personal development and creative techniques.
I took part in ‘Adventures in Learning’ a course in alterative learning and teaching techniques, which I utilised in a related event for young people.

Christmas 1996 and 1997 HARC Sheffield / Archer Day Care Centre
Volunteer at HARC (Homeless & Rootless at Christmas) – activities included; socialising with visitors, serving meals and refreshments, cleaning up.

Sept 1996 – Nov 1996 International Volunteer
Volunteers For Peace, Wisconsin USA

I worked in various ways to support families visiting incarcerated relatives in a nearby prison, and with all aspects of running a refuge for vulnerable women and children. Here I worked creativity with children to educate them in fun and useful ways.

1994 – 1995 Weekend Manager Oxfam Depot [week time volunteer], Handsworth Sheffield
Responsibilities included opening and running the depot on Saturdays, organising people, dealing with simple money matters and general sorting.
