Qualifications & Training

Freelance Facilitator, Workshop Leader and Coordinator
My main area of self-employment has been a commitment to developing, delivering and evaluating educational arts workshops and projects for a cross section of children, young people and adults, in a wide variety of contexts and settings. Many of these roles have been ongoing, under the canopy of work for one organisation or project.

Nov 05 - present: Coordinator and Facilitator, CUBE Young People's Magazine and related projects
Cube is a professionally published termly magazine, distributed in libraries, secondary schools and community spaces throughout Sheffield. As a creative professional I've been training young people through Cube for 3 years.

In my new role I deliver across the full spectrum of training that comes under the board canopy of Cube Magazine. This year [2006] I am developing an online version of the magazine at www.cubeweb.org.uk and expanding our internet radio station at www.radiowaves.co.uk. I've also created a cross country writing competition called PHOTOFICTION, to encourage young people's writing in addition to making new links, partnerships and opportunities for the magazine and its young people.>>

There are a wide range of strands to my Coordination and Facilitation roles at Cube which include:

Liaising with external partners such as schools, printers, designers, distributors, volunteers, creative professionals, and industries, and anyone who can aid or support Cube and its young journalists.

Developing and coordinating interesting, balanced and varied work placement blocks by providing training, mentoring, stimulus, challenge and varied activity for each individual and team.

Creating new and interesting opportunities through outside sources and nurturing long term partnerships to meet the needs of Cube’s young people in relation to journalism and creative media output.

Delivering appropriate industry training across the media fields of journalism, radio, web, illustration, film and photography.

Encouraging personal development through team experiences, debates and discussions, and through individual mentoring.

Providing detailed feedback and work references to each individual and school.

Managing the magazine and its related platforms as a whole including proof reading, observing deadlines, budget and illustration support.
